HETI Headlines February 2026

Hi subscriber,
Welcome to the February edition of the HETI Headlines! We've had a wonderful month which began with meeting the chairs of our various task forces and discussing their current work and their goals for 2026. We are so delighted to have such dedicated volunteers who are seeking to expand and enhance Equine Assisted Services globally. Details about our task forces can be found here.

This month we also had the first Asia Pacific Network meeting of 2026 where we discussed the importance of weight restrictions for riders, and it was highlighted that the body condition of the horse also needs to be taken into consideration when looking at weight limits. The recording of this meeting can be watched on our youtube channel.

We also had a fantastic HETI Live meeting where we discussed the involvement of sports in EAS with presentations highlighting how riding skills develop functional independence and improve daily life functioning for disabled riders. Key challenges were discussed, including the need for better judge education in para-vaulting, financial barriers for riders to participate in international competitions, and concerns about horse welfare. The group also addressed the need to educate coaches and judges while promoting inclusive sports programs. You can read the summary for this meeting here.

This coming Thursday, we have another brilliant Educational Webinar with the HETI European Equine Assisted Therapy Network member, Helena Costa. She will be discussing the work from the Therapy Equine management group, a subgroup of the HETI European network group EEATN, regarding equine training and education. This webinar is only open to HETI members so you will need to log in to register.
