Equine therapy and equestrian sport are often seen as opposing forces and two distinct fields. Among equine-assisted intervention professionals, sport and therapy are clearly differentiated and are generally not perceived as compatible. Indeed, as equine-assisted intervention is still a developing field, and to avoid any confusion, a clear boundary is established between these different branches. However, sport and competition—especially when they involve horses—can contribute to achieving therapeutic goals. Equestrian competition can thus be used as a therapeutic tool. In this webinar, I will present how sport and therapy can go hand in hand.
