Equine-assisted therapy and equestrian sport are often set in opposition and treated as separate fields. Among professionals in equine-assisted services, sport and therapy are clearly distinguished and are not considered to mix well. Indeed, as equine mediation is a field still under development, and in order to avoid confusion, a clear boundary is drawn between these different branches However, sport and competition—especially when involving horses—can help achieve therapeutic goals.
