HETI Headlines Autumn 2024
Dear Members and Friends of HETI,
Welcome to the Autumn 2024 issue of the HETI Headlines. It has been a very busy few months for HETI with welcoming our new board members, working on the strategic plan for 2024-2027, implementing new ways to connect with our members and taking part in various conferences and projects around the world! Below you'll see some of HETI's activities from the past few months. 

We love that we're getting to connect with our members more and look forward to further collaboration as we look towards a new year.

HETI Live monthly meetings

Following a very successful first meeting about HETI's upcoming strategic plan, we then hosted a second meeting based on the same topic to facilitate the participation of our members in the Asia-Pacific region. It was fantastic to be able to connect with so many of our members and hear their invaluable opinions!

Our next HETI Live will take place on Monday 4th November at 2pm Central European Time with HETI board member, Harriet Laurie.

Changes of EAT definition and learning pathways in Latvia
 
The Latvian Ministry of Health recently accepted the new Latvian educational plan for Equine Assisted Therapy. The authors of the curriculum imply some issues that are quite concerning. For instance, they are imposing a weight limit of 80kg on practitioners and restricting physiotherapy methods to assisted (tandem) sitting while overlooking many valuable practices in EAT.

In response, the Latvian Association of Equestrian Therapy and Pedagogical Riding have put together a survey to gather insights from professionals in other countries. The more responses they gather, the stronger their case will be to highlight the diversity of EAT practices worldwide. If possible, we encourage colleagues from Germany and Finland to participate, as the new program’s basis is influenced by their EAT educational systems.

National Standards for EAS -
We need your help!
 
HETI recognises the need for a central hub of information which is why we have created a webpage for national standards for Equine Assisted Services. This resource is produced by members, for members with the intention of signposting the key areas of compliance that all EAS providers may need to consider. We would love for our members to help with this resource by sending the HETI office the information needed for your country. A small amount of information and a weblink is all that's needed to help others in their journey towards best practice!

HETI Educational Webinars
 
We are excited to share our 10th HETI Educational Webinar with you! In November we will have world renowned Equine Anatomy and Biomechanical specialist, Gillian Higgins, joining us to share her knowledge on applied equine anatomy and biomechanics for the EAS professional.

This is sure to be a fascinating and informative webinar so be sure not to miss it!

HETI(UK) Autumn Forum
 
The HETI(UK) Autumn forum was held on 11th October in TheHorseCourse in Dorset, England. The focus of this meeting was to discuss the potential of a multi-site EAS effectiveness study in the UK. 

The HETI(UK) Spring Forum 2025 will be held in Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship, Totnes.

Call for Submissions!

We are seeking original submissions with the purpose of advancing knowledge in the field of Equine Assisted Services.

The HETI Journal has several submission categories:
Original Research - An original research study conducted by the author.
Literature Review - A comprehensive or systematic review of research on a specific topic.
Study Protocols - Procedures for proposed original scientific investigations that contribute to the development of equine-assisted services.
Clinical Cases (Case studies) - A presentation of a simple comprehensive case study or multiple case studies.
Theory and Practice - A discussion of a specific topic in the field.
Letter to the Editor - Comments on articles published in the HETI journal or in other journals on topics related to the equine-assisted field.

Manuscripts are reviewed through a double-blind peer-review system and submissions are welcome throughout the year.

Call out for Articles

The 12th issue of The Global Gallop will be published in January so we are seeking article submissions. We would love to hear from any of our members who are carrying out research, have recently hosted an event, are celebrating an achievement or who simply want to share what they're doing in their practice that is improving the lives of the people and/or equines involved.
 
Submissions must be sent to the HETI office by 22nd November 2024

Mary Selway Swift Development Fund

This fund is available to be used “to promote and improve the educational opportunities, training and quality of riding therapy through the development of therapeutic riding programmes internationally” on the request of the late Mary Selway Swift.
  • Applicants are welcome all year round.
  • Any payments from the fund will be made on the recommendation of the HETI Executive Committee.
  • Any one grant will not exceed €1,000 (Euro).
  • Applications should have the support of a HETI  Member or relevant recognised organisation.
If you would like to donate to this fund, please contact the HETI office.

HETI Headlines Autumn 2024
