Equine Functional Anatomy & Biomechanics
Overview
This course delves into the study of anatomy and biomechanics as they relate to movement and function. Throughout the course, you will learn about the typical structure and organization of the musculoskeletal system, which is essential for proper function, particularly during motion. Functional anatomy of muscles and muscle groups will be thoroughly described, including details such as their origins, insertions, innervation, vascular supply, and the actions they are responsible for. By the end of the course, you will be able to analyze the structural biomechanics of movement.
Learning outcomes
Understand the difference between systemic and functional anatomy.
Apply anatomic and biomechanical knowledge to muscle testing.
Describe the mechanical functions of muscles and joints, and understand factors that contribute to stability and/or dislocations, and may limit joint movements.
Gain the foundation required for the development and application of osteopathic assessment skills.
