The Interface between Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning

This workshop is co-presented with Dr. Marilyn Sokolof. It is an experiential and didactic presentation of the therapeutic and educational value of equine assisted interventions.  Similarities and differences between EAP (Equine Assisted Psychotherapy) and EAL (Equine Assisted Learning) are explored. There is a focus on clinically relevant equine activities, including groundwork, lungeing and interactive vaulting, based on theoretical principles.  The workshop is designed for mental health, education, and equine professionals.  No horse experience is necessary, although active participation is encouraged.

Participants will gain an understanding of:

  • the rationale for including horses as therapeutic/educational partners
  • the psychodynamics of EAP
  • professional issues related to the practice of EAP/EAL
  • ethical considerations specific to EAP/EAL
  • practical applications & activities
